India Couture Week 2021

Majestic lehengas, statement sleeves, and metallic hues make way for a new dawn of Indian couture

Amit Aggarwal's collection titled Metanoia featured the designer extraordinaire's most striking creations made with discarded PVC and handwoven polymer. This elaborate collection brings emotion to garments using intricate materials like glass fibre, raffia palm and optic fibre to spin architectural structures into fluid ensembles.

Structured gowns featured hand painting applied in gradient over tulle and silks. The collection highlights the use of the brands signature metallic polymers which has been used for intricate pleating, 3D hand embroidered thread work and metallic cording in detailed silhouettes which are structured yet fluid, personifying hope, acceptance and new paths.

Designer Dolly J's collection titled Ah-Lam was injected with feathers and embellishments. The collection is an ombre of French blues merging into amethyst mauves, bathing  in drops of gold and silver crystals. While the burnt coral ombres turn the green ash into a playful marigold gold, organza peonies and crystal corsage lend it an old world charm. Liquid silver fabric has been specially woven for this collection with simple silhouettes and crystal encrusted belts. The red bridal lehenga with a long veil is the flavour of this season.

If you are a sucker for trying different styles of sleeves, Pankaj & Nidhi's new collection, titled ‘Afterglow’ will leave you in awe as to how the designer duo have given the traditional lehenga a modern twist. The collection has exceptional techniques such as origami folding, handcrafted appliqués, and latticework in new-age materials with an iridescent sheen. Adopting a path toward sustainability, many of the embroidery materials are themselves fashioned in-house out of excess generated in the process of creation.

Speaking about their association with FDCI's India Couture Week 2021, Pankaj & Nidhi said, "We are very excited to launch our collection- Afterglow at India Couture Week 2021.  We have worked very hard to create each piece & look forward to seeing everyone's response. The collection incorporates our signature techniques in newer silhouettes and colours."
