Nothing recently revealed the design of their debut smartphone – the phone (1). The phone (1) will be auctioned at a 48 hour long event, scheduled to be live from June 21, 2022 from 14:00 BST to June 23, 2022 at 13:59 BST on StockX.com’s official website
Phone (1) features a transparent back with an exclusive mechanical design, consisting of over 400 recycled components. The design inspirations are taken from art works of artists like Massimo Vignelli who designed the New York subway map, and made a complex system look like an art. The phone uses a hundred percent recycled aluminum frame making it light and robust, while over fifty percent of the phone’s plastic components are made with bio-based or post-consumer recycled materials.
Showcasing the phone to a private audience during Art Basel in Switzerland, Carl Pei, CEO and Co-founder, Nothing said, “For years now, it felt like all the artists had left the industry. All we’re left with are cold, unexciting and derivative products. It was time for a fresh take.” “phone (1) was designed out of instinct, making a product for ourselves and more importantly that we would be proud to share with our loved ones. Can’t wait for people to start experiencing it.”
Post the reveal, Nothing claims to use a direct-to-consumer product release method and will conduct an exclusive auction to StockX’s global audience for the sale of the first 100 phones. All proceeds from the event will go towards a community managed fund. Prior to this, back in 2021, Nothing and StockX teamed up to auction the first 100 units of Nothing’s debut ear (1) as well.
Speaking at the launch, Deena Bahiri, CMO, StockX said “Nothing is a disruptive brand at the forefront of current culture. Our shared commitment to removing barriers and driving innovation is at the core of our continued collaboration,”.
That said, more details about the Nothing phone(1) are scarce for now. But stay tuned to this space for more updates on the phone(1) and we will bring you all the updates including a detailed review soon.
