This one is a seriously good-looking phone from Apple reminiscing the old design of iPhone 5. Let’s have a closer look at this new flagship…

The iPhone 12 is one of the most exciting upgrades in the iPhone series in a very long time, and it’s not just one or two phone choices that Apple has come up with this time, it’s an entire series! Yes, four phones with five different colour options and three storage sizes for each; a lot to choose from, hell yeah! To make things easy, the iPhone 12 comes in four variants – 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. If you have been following the iPhone launches till date, you will quickly get that all the models carrying the same model number get the same CPU too. Same is the case with this new iPhone 12; all the four models get the A14 Bionic chip with next gen neural engine. And let me tell you, this chip is unarguably the fastest processor in any phone till date on this planet. The A13 was still competitive for having the fastest head while Apple has now come up with the all new A14 chip.
All the models get 12MP camera at the rear with f/1.6 wide aperture lens and f/2.4 ultra-wide aperture lens. The Pro and Pro Max get an additional telephoto lens with f/2.0 and f/2.2 aperture respectively. The 12 Pro and Pro Max also get dual optical image stabilization and 10x digital zoom over the normal image stabilization and 5x digital zoom over the 12 and 12 mini. All the phones record 4k at 60fps as their highest video quality. Not getting into a lot of technicalities here, but, be rest assured that the iPhone 12 will have you one of the best experiences behind the camera from a phone and of course in front of it. The best part I personally loved and I’m sure most iPhone users are going to love is the way this new phone looks.
Having used the iPhone 4S and 5S extensively, all I ever craved from them was a bigger screen to match up with the upcoming user experiences on the new iPhones. To be honest, I never quiet liked whatever came after the iPhone 6 in terms of design, probably the same might have gone with the likes of Apple designers as well, the reason I presume the next iPhones including the 7, 8, new SE being based on the same design albeit possessing extremely minuscule changes. Fast forward to 2020, bringing back the same design of sharp, clean and sedate straight cut edges from the iPhone 4 and 5 with a bigger screen is a battle half won for Apple there itself. Advantage? Less slippery to hold, good to look at and much more character! Old school is still the new cool. Apple has not mentioned the battery capacity of the iPhone 12 models but to mention the stats, the 12 mini, 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max get 15, 17, 17 and 20 hours of video playback respectively. Not bad at all! The fast charger juices up the phone up to 50% from dead in 30 mins.
The iPhone 12 gets a ceramic shield front, first of its kind seen on a phone while it is 5G enabled to up its USP along with being future ready for the next internet buzz. It is IP68 rated which will allow you to take it under water up to 6 meters for 30 minutes. Taking underwater photos while swimming, snorkelling or scuba diving feels like a breeze, right? Obviously yes! But hang on, if there is any damage due to water to your iPhone 12, Apple will not cover it under the warranty. Meh… The iPhone 12 also gets a MagSafe and Qi wireless charging, which is pretty awesome - the phone clings to the charger, no fear of waking over a dead phone then. The 12 features a standard Face ID feature which I am not pretty fond of and in today’s world where we all are hiding behind our masks, the humble touch ID on the new SE makes a sensible option. The iPhone 12 does carry the lightening connector from its predecessors though.
What I am seriously disappointed about is that Apple has not included a fast charger in the box, forget that, it does not include even a charger in the box; it’s just the lightening connector cable. For the ones upgrading from their current 6, 7, 8, 11 or SE, Apple still never gave customers a fast charger in the box and when the owner has to purchase the fast charger as an accessory, or even the normal charger, it is extremely awful on the owner’s front. As a prospective buyer, I am absolutely unhappy about this. Also, no earphones in the box! Prostrate. But, hey, that’s all the negatives I can point out virtually.
The iPhone 12 mini and 12 is available in five colour options – Blue, Green, Red, White and Black while the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max is available in four colour options – Pacific Blue, Gold, Graphite and Silver. The iPhone 12 mini, 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max start at Rs 69,900, Rs 79,900, Rs 1,19,900 and Rs 1,29,900 respectively. Price is subjective when iPhones are considered, reason is obvious; and hence I would just say go and grab the new benchmark out there.
